We have seen the promises of anti wrinkle creams everywhere. In newspapers, in specialized magazines, online: beautiful girls who with a touch of cream get 20 years younger.

Needless to say, isn’t it?

Obviously not.

The reality is very different from the promises seen on TV. We have already seen the face creams that I recommend to use every day, but today we go into the specific creams against wrinkles.

Let us first of all remember that cosmetics cannot, by definition, substitute what surgery attempts to do. But this is not necessarily bad.

Marsha Gordon, deputy director of the dermatology department of Mount Sinay University in New York, recently highlighted in an interview how the economic crisis has led consumers to choose increasingly low-level creams.

The result, when using inexpensive creams, practically without active ingredients in the best of cases is zero. In the worst case, on the other hand, there is skin irritation, dermatitis, or various types of damage to the poor formulations of the products put on your face.

“The use of cosmetics can certainly help to drastically reduce the phenomenon of oxidation of the epithelial tissue, especially of the face, which is the most exposed to ultraviolet rays, the first factor in the formation of wrinkles”.

Retinol in anti wrinkle creams?

Dr. Marsha Gordon explains how Retinol (ie the alcoholic form of vitamin A) has unique capacities, such as the induction of collagen and elastin synthesis, as well as an excellent antioxidant in safeguarding from the causes of photo-aging.

The induced collagen is actually the supporting structure that gives our skin a tonic and young appearance. When the levels remain abundant, our skin maintains the typical young and firm appearance. When the levels begin to decrease, we lose the rigid “structure” and the first wrinkles start to form.

If on one hand collagen injections actually serve to fill in the empty areas, and therefore to make a few lines disappear, several researchers have shown how the topical application of peptides or vitamins that can stimulate it can help effectively, partially filling some areas and stimulating the surrounding cells to form new collagen.

Therefore, among the many ingredients proposed by pharmaceutical companies, this is effectively effective from a scientific point of view, as long as it is in high concentrations. We speak at least of a concentration of 1% by weight on the final formulation of an anti-wrinkle cream.

Botox in anti aging creams?

The latest generation wrinkle creams are often associated with the so-called “wrinkle relax” whose meaning is the relaxation of the tissues in which the first wrinkles are formed. In particular, almost all of these products use a combination of two pentapeptides: palmitoyl pentapeptide and acetyl exapeptide (also called argireline). This particular combination of ingredients is also called the mix-Botox, because the result is comparable to small micro-injections of botox in the areas most affected by wrinkles.

“Botox is not a filler like collagen. On the contrary, its efficacy is born due to the destruction of the proteins involved in the release of neurotransmitters that keep the muscle in tension, causing the wrinkle in the long term.
This relaxes the muscle, which is not showing any signs of wrinkles “.

The Argireline complex very well mimics the action of Botox, blocking the action of proteins. The big difference between Botox and argirelina is that this last one, unlike the Botox, does not completely destroy the proteins, says the Doctor, but it simply does not allow the neurotransmission that would cause the typical contractions (which over time translate into wrinkles ) of the muscle.

Palmitoyl pentapeptide works alongside Argirelin, which acts as a stimulant for the production of collagen, whose filling effect has been extensively studied and recognized.

The final result with latest-generation creams that use ingredients similar to those described above will have a important relaxing effect on the skin. There will certainly not be a “forced” distension, like that obtained by resorting to surgery, but undoubtedly there will be scientific basis for having concrete results.

Hyaluronic acid in anti aging creams?

Hyaluronic acid is a filler with moisturizing properties that is used alternatively to collagen as an ingredient to restore volume to areas where there are wrinkles.
In good quantities it can also naturally stimulate collagen production.

Is hyaluronic acid actually effective in creams as it is injected under the skin?

The answer, according to several studies, is: not directly. The main motivation is due to the fact that if the hyaluronic acid molecules are dispersed badly and agglomerated between them, they find it difficult to pass through the epidermis and go under the skin where it should perform its filling action. However, this does not mean that it is not useful. On the contrary, different creams based on this substance have great effective benefits visible on the skin.

“Hyaluronic acid will only be absorbed when it has a low molecular weight: it is not enough that it is in large quantities in the cream, but it must be well dispersed in it”.

The explanation is that the hyaluronic acid spread on the epidermis will be absorbed only when low molecular weight (and this characteristic is found only in the best creams), but the remainder will create an antioxidant barrier on the skin. Being a substance already present and naturally produced in our epidermis it is not at all irritating, and rarely can cause irritation or allergies (unlike many other components found in other creams).

wrinkle skin hyaluronic-acidTherefore, hyaluronic acid is a unique moisturizer (holds over 1000 times its weight in water), it will not have the typical filling effect of an injection, but it is a very valid antioxidant, and elasticizing and is one of the most precious ingredients they can be found on the market for an excellent anti-wrinkle face cream.

Obviously, the times for the first results to be visible will not be immediate, but range from 30 to 90 days.

After having tried – and studied the ingredients – an indescribable quantity of the highest quality anti-aging creams on the market, we can recognize at least 6 excellent technical products, whose qualities make them stand out clearly from all the competition.

NB: We constantly update the ranking, so month after month some positions may change!

Anti Wrinkle Cream – Best Men facial night cream

7) Brickell – Men’s Antiaging cream

wrinkle-cream-brickell-menThe Brickell anti wrinkle face cream is probably the best man face cream in terms of value for money.

It is not a revolutionary anti-wrinkle treatment, but it is a type of cream suitable for revitalizing the skin giving it intense hydration for several hours.

From INCI excellent presences of vitamins A, hyaluronic acid, B5 and E emerge, as well as different plant extracts such as Aloe, Shea butter, Jojoba Oil and green tea exctract. In addition to these there are not too many ingredients in terms of anti-aging ability and therefore we do not expect a high anti-wrinkle effect on skins over 50 years.

At the same time, the high presence of antioxidants is an excellent source of prevention against wrinkles, and this is why it is a very suitable cream for skin under 40-45 years.

The real strength of this cream, however, is the ability to protect the skin from external factors by moisturizing it and giving it much brighter tones.

It is a cream that creates a real barrier between the epidermis and the external environment, but it is not greasy in any way and manages to adapt very well both in summer (in the heat) and on oily skins. In winter and on dry skins it will still do well, although it will not be as nutritious as others we have seen.

The results after one month of use were really excellent.
Both on mature skin, which on young skin the skin tone is improved, becoming brighter and “alive”. Less gray, so to speak.
The elasticity is improved, as well as the small wrinkles have decreased significantly. The most intense wrinkles, instead (over 50 years), would have required a more specific anti-wrinkle treatment, like others that we face in the standings.

Aloe Leaf Juice*, Shea Butter*, Jojoba Oil*, Rooibos Extract*, DMAE, Emulsifying Wax, Green Tea*, MSM, Hyaluronic Acid, White Tea Leaf Extract*, Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin E, White Willow Bark Extract*, Rosehip Fruit Oil, Lichen Extract, Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Peppermint Leaf Oil, Lemongrass Oil. *Certified Organic.

Perfect for:

A cream for men that has managed to convince us (and especially our testers) on all fronts. Hydration is excellent. The matting effect is natural and perfect for combination or oily skin. The ingredients are delicate and very rich in antioxidant medicinal plants. And above all the anti-wrinkle effect is real and visible after only ten days.
A face cream for men that really knows how to be appreciated even by those less used to this type of product.

Anti Wrinkle Cream – Best Serum

6) Poppy Austin – Vitamin C Serum

wrinkle-cream-poppy-austin-serumThis particular serum in drops is a 360 degree product. It is one of the few products on the market with pure hyaluronic acid concentrate, jojoba oil, and Vitamin B3. The effects of this vitamin have been known for some years now due to its great antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

It has also been studied how it is able to limit the production of sebum in the skin, and is therefore absolutely suitable for those suffering from oily skin or even mild acne. The remaining components are all organic and natural, including Organic Aloe Vera, Avocado Oil and Vitamin E. The presence of hyaluronic acid (which we remember is also produced by our skin) makes it a very moisturizing cream.

Aqua (Deionized Water), Hamamelis Virginiana Water (Witch Hazel), Cassia Angustifolia Seed Extract (Botanical Hyaluronic Acid), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Organic Aloe), Glycerin (Kosher, Vegetable), Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Organic Jojoba Oil), Centella Asiatica Extract (Organic Gotu Kola), Equisetum Arvense Extract (Horsetail), Geranium Maculatum Extract (Wild Geranium), Taraxacum Officinale Extract (Organic Dandelion), Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

Perfect for:

A natural, rich and complete serum that uses the most effective natural ingredients currently in circulation to combat the signs of age. One of the few serums I have tried whose first results can already be seen after a week of use.

Anti Wrinkle Cream – Best cheap Moisturizer

5) InstaNatural – Retinol Moisturizer

wrinkle-cream-instanatural-retinolThe Instanatural antiage moisturizer is a high-end cream designed and produced in the Vovees laboratories located in Verona. It is a product that I have learned to appreciate for years now, and I have also included in my historical ranking on the best wrinkle creams ever.

This cream is an excellent organic anti-aging product, with an intensive action both in terms of hydration of the epidermis and anti-wrinkle for more mature skin.

The INCI of this cream is really complete and very rich, while remaining within the limits of the use of natural active ingredients.

We find the “ultrapure” Hyaluronic acid, that is high purity level, able to stimulate the production of collagen (in fact it is essential for the production of collagen) so that the skin appears more healthy, hydrated and “full”.

At the same time we find significant quantities of Aloe Barbadensis, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Retinol Extract and Vitamins from Essential Oils (A, D, E, F).

A vegan multivitamin face cream with a deeply moisturizing and antioxidant effect, but very delicate on the skin. Perfect for all those suffering from allergies and or irritations caused by delicate skin.

The texture is creamy and moisturizing, but is quickly absorbed on the skin. Thanks to the high concentrations of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid the moisturizing effect goes deep into the epidermis and lasts for several hours. I personally feel the skin moisturized and not dry even 8 hours after wearing it.

I also appreciated that it does not contain fragrances and fragrances. All to maintain an essential cream, but rich in functional and natural active ingredients.

A cream that I consider to be among the best ever, both as a moisturizer and as a wrinkle remover.
It costs a lot, no doubt, but it is a product of absolute quality, with attention to the smallest details and in every aspect of the formulation.

Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate SE*, Glycerin*, Dicaprylyl Ether*, Cetyl Alcohol*, Stearic Acid*, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate**, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Sodium Hyaluronate*, Retinol**, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride*, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Hesperidin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Flower Extract, Panthenol**, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Geranium Maculatum Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Tocopherol*, Xanthan Gum*, Pentylene Glycol*, Caprylyl Glycol**, Ethylhexylglycerin**, Citric Acid*. *Naturally Derived, ** Safe Synthetic

Perfect for:

Definitely a good bio-cream, and most of all very cheap. Good as anti-wrinkle for the most mature skins, both oily and dry.
It acquires a delicacy on the skin that many other well-known brands can only dream of. Very good value for price.

Anti Wrinkle Cream – Exfoliating Moisturizer

4) NeoStrata – Resurface High Potency

wrinkle cream neostrata-high-potencyNeostrata is a cosmetic company in the United States, based in New Jersey that has become known for marketing products based on polyhydroxy acids. Today it markets its products all over the world.

The cream that I decided to include in this ranking is the resurface of Neostrata, due to the unique efficacy that it can have on acne or imperfections.

Gel Plus is a cream based on glycolic acid, specific to offer an intensive exfoliation and to balance / hydrate the deeper layers of the skin.

Formulated with 15% glycolic acid, this light gel quickly penetrates the surface of the skin to stimulate cell renewal, actively correcting the appearance of premature aging, enlarged pores, irregular consistency and discoloration. Used regularly, this gel promotes the production of collagen to firm and shape the skin, while ensuring that breakages and congestion become less frequent. As it is formulated it is also an excellent fast-acting treatment for ingrown hair on the face and body.

Suitable for oily and problematic skin types, it is an ideal solution to exfoliate the skin and stimulate the production of new, smoother, softer and imperfection-free skin.

The cream that I recommend to those who try to fight small scars, excoriations, blackheads or general imperfections on the skin.

There is little to say about INCI, as it is “clean” and with very few preservatives.
Please note that this is a beautiful “tough” cream, very useful for renewing the skin, but not suitable for particularly sensitive skin.

Aqua (Water), Glycolic Acid, Arginine, Propylene Glycol, Stearic Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, Isostearic Acid, PEG-100 Stearate, Lactobionic Acid, Isododecane, Isohexadecane, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Methylglucamine, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Bisabolol, BHT, Propylparaben, Methylparaben

Perfect for:

An excellent cream, perfect for older skins. Unique in its ability to exfoliate and soften and eliminate scars, blackheads and skin imperfections.
A cream capable of seriously relaxing wrinkles, but at the same time with an excellent and deeply moisturizing / nourishing INCI.

NeoStrata – Resurface High Potency – Price: $44,99

Anti Wrinkle Cream – 40 years old skin and ahead

3) Elizabeth Arden – Retinol Ceramide Capsules

wrinkle-cream-elizabeth-ArdenElizabeth Arden’s ceramide serum is one of the most intelligent products available.

Unlike most other creams, the packaging provides a protection of the active ingredients from the air to a higher level: each dosage is enclosed in a soft capsule, so that contact with the air of the active ingredients occurs only at time of actual use.

The capsule contains several ingredients of the highest level, including ceramides, various antioxidants and plant complexes useful for stimulating cell regeneration. As we shall see later, there is also a good amount of retinol.

This type of anti-wrinkle serum works deeply in the epidermis, really stimulating the skin to regenerate and renew itself. It must be said however that it is a product that has tried to limit the number of ingredients, probably to make it suitable even for the most sensitive skins, (and indeed it is).
This means that the results will not be immediate, because it is a formulation specially created to work over time.
You will immediately get great hydration and a better overall appearance of the skin. The anti-wrinkle effect is visible over time, because it is not a lifting cream with immediate effect.

The first time you wear it on your skin it will look a little heavy to be a serum. It will almost seem like wearing a light gel. In fact it will take a few minutes to absorb, which is why I recommend using it at night.

In the package we tried, the capsules were 60. With a capsule, you cover the entire face generously … and I know that many of you (and us) will want to keep part of the serum inside the capsule for later use.
Naturally this will compromise part of the efficacy linked to the ingredients that do not oxidize, but if we really want to do it, we keep the capsule open for no more than 12 hours, and in the fridge!

The strong part of INCI is the so-called Enhanced Ceramide Lipid Complex (ECLX), which is a combination of ceramides 1,3 and 6 that help to reconstruct the structure of the skin. (We have seen the role of ceramides in the introduction!).

Also present at the appeal of the formula are fatty acids (linol and vitamin E), and lipids including phytosphingosine, another big help for the skin barrier. Borago oil is also an excellent component, rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 and Vitamins A, B, D and E, with all the advantages associated with them.

Finally, in order not to miss anything, also the salt of Retinol is present, which as we know is a stimulant of the production of the collagent, with a consequent more compact and toned skin.

Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Squalene, Cyclohexasiloxane, Isostearic Acid, Ceramide 1, Ceramide 6 Ii, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Retinyl Linoleate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopherol Phytosphingosine Oleic Acid Hexadecanolactone

Perfect for:

Not just a marketing gimmick, as you might think. The disposable capsules are the best of the best for maintaining the properties of the active ingredients.
INCI is really well formulated, both to protect the skin and to stimulate the formation of new cells and collagen. The skin in a couple of weeks acquires brightness and tone, even if it is a serum-gel that does well even when not seen.
It’s probably the serum I’ll use when I’ll be a little older… and maybe I’ll have some extra money!

Anti Wrinkle Cream – 40 years old skin and ahead

2) Filorga – Time Filler

wrinkle-cream-filorga-time-fillerLet’s move on to a premium-level cream known internationally.

For those not familiar, Filorga Paris is a brand born in 1978 specialized in therapies against cellular aging. Today it is an established reality all over the world, among the best known for medium-high range products with a high quality content.

The active moisturizing ingredient use Imperata cylindrica, a very interesting plant extract (a grass). It has excellent long-term moisturizing effects. Its moisturizing ability is due to the chemical composition of the rhizomes that contain natural osmoprotective compounds such as 3-dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP), potassium, starches and sugars.
A 2% of Imperata Cylindrica is able to increase the skin’s hydration level by almost 45%.

The substantial difference between Time Filler and the Time Filler Mat is already understood from the name. The first is a nourishing anti-wrinkle cream suitable for combination skin, while the second is specific for oily skin.

The anti-aging active ingredients of note are the peptides present in INCI.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 is an antiage with several in vitro studies behind it for its ability to redensify the dermis and smooth the skin.

Dipeptide diaminobutyroyl benzylamide diacetate is a conditioning agent for the epidermis classified as a neuro-peptide and is believed to block the absorption of Na + (sodium) by the body, which in turn causes relaxation of the facial muscles. Result? Prevent the formation of expression lines (wrinkles).

Perfect for:

This is not a real filler, but after 2 months of use the results are visible, all the more with advancing age. Excellent moisturizing capacity, excellent antioxidant capacity derived from plant extracts.
A really effective anti-wrinkle cream, capable of reducing wrinkles and designed to prevent new ones.

Anti Wrinkle Cream – Best of all

1) Sensai – Cellular Performance Emulsion III

wrinkle-cream-sensai-cellular-performanceSensai is the Kanebo brand, the Japanese high-end cosmetics giant. It is a point of reference throughout the Asian market for “VIP” products for the care of appearance and person.

The Lift Sensai Cellular Performance reshaping cream is an anti-aging cream suitable for spreading the skin creating a lifting effect even on the deepest wrinkles.

It is the typical anti-wrinkle cream 50 years and maybe even better as an anti-wrinkle cream effective for 60 years or more. The moisturizing effect is of medium level, while the ability to spread the skin is very accentuated, and well simulates the tensor effect of pharmacy fillers.

The texture is of the highest level, with a silky effect that is not greasy under any circumstances and is also suitable as an excellent base for makeup.

Because of the INCI, which we will see later, I interpret it as an excellent cream that must solve the problem of wrinkles, extending those already existing (even better if more accentuated). It is not a cream that I would use as protective or preventive.

It is, in fact, a cream with the specific objective of pulling the skin as far as possible where there are persistent wrinkles. And he really succeeds.

Sensai researchers have made no major problems in putting ingredients that are also synthetic in fair quantities.

The goal of this cream is undoubtedly the relaxation of wrinkles, without too much thinking about avoiding synthetic or dehydrating ingredients. In fact we find silicones (Cyclomethicone) as well as petrolatums in high concentrations, as well as parabens, although in smaller concentrations.

In the same way the concentrations of vitamins (first of all the Niacinamide) and emollients are high.

The cream has, of course, a patent (Cellular Performance, Lifting Series) and therefore there are very few studies concerning many of the ingredients of the formula.

At a guess however the true active ingredients of the formulation must be the extracts of apricot, saccharomyces (a yeast of mushrooms), of Pyracantha crenatoserrata (a fruit) and of the various plants present as essential oils.
Even the fair concentration of Conchiolina is interesting, given that it is a peptide useful for stimulating collagen production.

In short, this cream is controversial from the point of view of INCI, as often happens in very (perhaps too much) elaborated creams. But unlike others, the lifting effect is and can be seen. The choice is ours.

Water (Aqua), Hydrogenated Polydecene, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil Isostearate, Sorbitan Isostearate, Niacinamide, Stearic Acid, Cholesterol, Dimethicone, Bentonite, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Xanthan Gum, Ammonium Glycyrrhizate, Fragrance (Parfum), Behenyl Alcohol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Methylserine, Acetyl Glucosamine, Butylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Alcohol, Dimethoxy Di-p-Cresol, Hydrolyzed Silk, Nasturtium Officinale Extract, Zostera Marina Extract, Pyracantha Fortuneana Fruit Extract, Dioscorea Panthaica Root Extract, BHT, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool, Red 4 (CI 14700), Yellow 5 (CI 19140)

Perfect for:

An anti-wrinkle face cream for mature skin that aims at the substance. We find silicones and parabens on a par with plant extracts from numerous plants. The mix of ingredients is patented, but what we can say is that it is certainly a cream with a very strong lifting and plumping effect. All the better if we treat wrinkles from the age of 50 onwards.
